Shannon has experience in helping our hospital and health system clients to recover additional money owed by payers. She has written appeals challenging inpatient and emergency department denials and advised clients on legal compliance with Medicare billing requirements. She has also led presentations for clients intended to explain complex issues, such as legal treatment obligations, in order to demonstrate opportunities to reduce the number of denied, delayed, and underpaid medical claims.
Before coming to HLS, Shannon had deep exposure to Medicare, Medicaid, and Marketplace (Affordable Care Act) issues. At the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, she analyzed comments regarding proposed Marketplace regulations and conducted research on Medicare patients seeking Marketplace coverage. She also assisted DC seniors with dual beneficiary applications and coverage issues at the Health Insurance Counseling Project, and assisted clients with intellectual disabilities in making advance directives at the Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities. In addition, Shannon interned with the US Department of Justice Criminal Fraud Division, United States Coast Guard Office of Military Justice, and for Judge Michael J. Burke of the Illinois Appellate Court, Second District.
